FLORIDA FOSSILS TO BE ON DISPLAY FOR 'DINO DAYS'
August 23 at the Museum of Discovery and Science
Visitors will get to view the fossils of many extinct
Florida animals such as the
sabre-toothed cat, camel, mammoth plus much more!
What:
As part of August’s Dino Days activities, Marge Fantozzi and
Sharon Barfoot, president of the Tampa Bay Fossil Club, and
Chris DeLorey, educator of the Brevard Zoo, will be at the
Museum to display their impressive Florida fossil collections,
interact with guests, and give on-going presentations about
Florida fossils and how to find them in our own backyards!

About the event:
Did you know that camels used to roam Florida? Well, Chris
DeLorey from the Brevard Zoo knows and he has proof! He has
everything from pieces of a giant tortoise shell to shark’s
teeth. Chris will give exciting presentations and visitors will
get to learn all about Florida fossils and they will receive a
fossil shark’s tooth to take home! Plus Sharon Barfoot from the
Tampa Bay Fossil Club will share her sabre-toothed cat, marine
mammal, and mammoth fossils and tell visitors how to find
fossils in their own backyards. She will also have special
fossils that guests can touch and delicate ones for viewing in a
display case.
There will also be all kinds of dinosaur and fossil finding
related activities happening all over the Museum. Guests will be
able to pretend to be a paleontologist in a “chocolate chip
cookie fossil dig,” make dinosaur finger puppets, put together a
giant 3D T-Rex puzzle, get their faces painted, and a
make-and-take paper T-Rex!
Background: The Museum is open Monday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to
5:00 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 6:00 p.m. The Museum is open
every day of the year except Thanksgiving and Christmas. General
admission prices are $14.00 for adults; $13.00 for seniors and
students; $12.00 for children 3 to 12. Children under 3 are
free. A general admission ticket includes admission to the
Museum exhibits and one IMAX® film. Members receive free
admission to Museum exhibits and $1.00 off IMAX® and combo
ticket prices. The Museum of Discovery and Science is located at
401 Southwest Second Street in downtown Fort Lauderdale. For
